Dr. J. Kevin Livingston
comes from Seattle, Washington. He was raised in a Christian home, and
attended a Baptist church with his family. He attended Seattle University,
graduating with a B.A. in history and philosophy. While there, he grew
in his faith through involvement with Campus Crusade for Christ and
later Inter Varsity Christian Fellowship. His interest in missions was
fostered by his home congregation during his university days,
the First Presbyterian
Church of Seattle. That congregation sent 19 of its college-age
students to Urbana ’76. It was at
Urbana that he
sensed a call to the ministry of the Word, and became committed to the
cause of Christian mission.
Following his graduation from Seattle University, Dr. Livingston served
as a missionary with the Latin America Mission in Mexico and Central
America. While in Mexico he met his future bride – Irene Thomas of Lindsay,
Ontario, who was also working with the LAM. He is a graduate of Fuller
Theological Seminary (M.Div.) and the University of Aberdeen, Scotland
(Ph.D.) where he undertook doctoral studies in the theology of mission
and evangelism. In 1983 he was ordained as a minister of the Presbyterian
Church (USA), and in 1988 was received as a minister of the Presbyterian
Church in Canada.
Dr. Livingston has served congregations in Seattle, Aberdeenshire, Scotland
and
New Westminster, British Columbia. From 1995 to 2000,
was senior minister at
St. Andrew’s
Hespeler Presbyterian Church in Cambridge, Ontario.
On June 25th, 2000, he was inducted as senior minister at Knox Presbyterian
Church. He has served on the Board of Trustees of the Latin America
Mission USA, and of the Crieff Hills Community, the national Presbyterian
Conference Centre. He has also taught as adjunct professor of mission
studies at McMaster Divinity College in Hamilton, Ontario and more recently
at Tyndale Seminary in Toronto.
Dr. Livingtson’s central passion is the preaching and teaching of God’s
Word. His primary goal is to ensure that the message of Christ’s gospel
is heard by the members of Knox and others within his reach, and that
every opportunity is provided to help people become mature, fully-devoted
followers of Jesus Christ.
Kevin and Irene have three children – Sarah, David and John Wesley.
